New Delhi (ISJ) ? India would encourage and incentivise private investments ? both domestic and foreign ? in science and technology and high-end research in nurturing innovation, said President Pranab Mukherjee. Addressing the joint session of Parliament, Mukherjee said, the government plan to build world-class research centres in the fields of nanotechnology, material sciences, thorium technology, brain research, stem cells, etc. He said, India also plans to set up institutes of technology for rural development and a central university for Himalayan studies.
The president said, the new government would revive Brand India, riding on the country?s pre-eminence in 5Ts ? tradition, talent, tourism, trade and technology.
Investment in agriculture would receive priority and scientific practices and agro-technology would be introduced to turn farming into a profitable venture, said the President.
?Agriculture is the source of livelihood for majority of our people. In the recent past, our farmers have been under severe stress with hopelessness driving some of them to suicides. My government is committed to reversing this unfortunate trend,? said Mukherjee.
On health front, the President said premier health facility like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi would be set up in every state in a phased manner. He called for a holistic healthcare system, ?universally accessible, affordable and effective?. The government will roll out a new health policy and a national health assurance mission. It will also address the shortfall of healthcare professionals and transform health education and training to meet the demand.
The inaugural speech of President Mukherjee was a reinforcement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi?s vision of development.
